Taylor Swift Acquires Exclusive Rights To The Concept Of Autumn

NASHVILLE — In a landmark intellectual property deal that legal experts are calling “technically impossible but emotionally binding,” Taylor Swift has reportedly acquired the exclusive commercial rights to autumn, including falling leaves, cable-knit sweaters, emotionally unresolved walks through small towns, and the specific shade of orange associated with remembering someone who wronged you in 2012.

The deal, estimated to be worth $900 million and one scarf, gives Swift full ownership over the season’s core aesthetic assets. Beginning this year, anyone wishing to use autumn for personal growth, romantic disappointment, or looking wistfully out of a train window must obtain written permission from Swift’s legal team.

“Autumn has always been part of Taylor’s brand identity,” said a spokesperson for Swift, standing in front of a wall of framed cease-and-desist letters addressed to pumpkin patches. “This acquisition simply formalizes what the public already knew, which is that no one has experienced October without her involvement since approximately 2008.”

Under the new agreement, coffee shops will still be allowed to sell pumpkin spice lattes, though each beverage must now be accompanied by a QR code linking to a breakup playlist. Apple orchards may continue operating, provided customers sign a waiver acknowledging that any sudden urge to text an ex is not the orchard’s liability.

The National Weather Service confirmed it had received formal notice that “crisp air” may no longer be described as crisp without licensing approval.

“We are exploring alternatives such as ‘moderately brisk’ and ‘emotionally breathable,’” said meteorologist Dan Reilly. “Unfortunately, early testing shows those phrases do not pair well with cardigans.”

The most controversial portion of the deal concerns leaves, which are now divided into three tiers: Standard Foliage, Vault Foliage, and Taylor’s Version Foliage. Municipalities that fail to upgrade to Taylor’s Version by November 1 may be required to rake their leaves in silence.

Public reaction has been mixed. Swift’s fans praised the move as “iconic,” “long overdue,” and “proof that she basically invented having feelings near trees.” Critics, meanwhile, accused the singer of monopolizing the human experience of seasonal melancholy.

“I’m not anti-Taylor,” said local man Greg Patterson, who was served papers after wearing a burgundy flannel in public. “I just think I should be able to feel haunted by a past relationship near a hayride without giving anyone 30 percent.”

The acquisition has already sent shockwaves through Hollywood. Hallmark executives reportedly entered emergency meetings after realizing 83 percent of their fall movie slate now requires a licensing fee. One upcoming film, Love Under The Maple Moon, has been retitled Romance During A Legally Distinct Transitional Weather Period.

At press time, Swift was rumored to be in talks to acquire “the idea of midnight,” though representatives for raccoons, insomniacs, and Taco Bell have filed a joint objection.
